Strategies To Better Downtown Announced

DDA/Mainstreet is working to achieve strategies to better downtown Cheyenne.

Chairman of the DDA/Mainstreet, Sam Galeotos shared in the fall the upcoming journey of their Board of Directors. The outcome would be primary goals and strategies. Tonight an update was provided featuring a detailed mission, defined goals and strategies. A timeline applied to this information is on the horizon.

During a stakeholder this evening Chairman Galeotos said, “There is so much potential in downtown and with this new strategic plan we will work to dive into areas where we can make an impact.”

Mission: To create the infrastructure, environment and activity levels necessary to promote revitalization of downtown Cheyenne, and to maintain it as a viable, thriving area of commerce and services.

Strategic overview included the need to solve infrastructure issues, like the recent news with Z’s and other buildings. The need for residents and workers is also a primary strategy to improve downtown. Another area where they look to improve is to leverage existing events and create new events to keep visitors in the area and increase their spending. Place-making is an important factor for downtown development, atmosphere enhancements and better capabilities will be a continued strategy. Programs like the bike share, ice rink and the outdoor vendor opportunities, will be built upon. Lastly, improving communication is going to be an ongoing and important component towards gaining results and support. This includes sharing information directly to stakeholders but also doing a better job of promoting the downtown area and the businesses, as well as activities which reside in the area.

The Downtown Core (DDA/Mainstreet, Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, Cheyenne LEADS and Visit Cheyenne) has worked towards improvements in downtown and one of them was to fully light 17th street. The DDA/Mainstreet organization plans to keep this momentum in their future plans.

“17th Street is the next big thing.” Chairman Galeotos explained.

When asked about the funding for the organization it was clarified, their hopes with the recent accomplishments of their strategic plan will provide them sustained funding in the City’s upcoming budget cycle.
