Shrek the musical auditions open in Cheyenne: local performers wanted

Show summary Hide summary

Cheyenne Little Theatre Players has opened auditions for its fall musical, drawing strong local interest: the first audition night is already full, but the company has added more opportunities for performers of different ages. The production of Shrek the Musical will be staged at the Mary Godfrey Playhouse and organizers say they need cast members across all age groups.

New audition slots after high demand

The initial audition session on Monday, July 13 filled quickly. To accommodate more applicants, the theater scheduled a second evening for performers aged 14 and up on Wednesday, July 15 at 6 p.m. Youth auditions for 10- to 13-year-olds are set for Tuesday, July 14 at 6 p.m.

All auditions will take place at the Mary Godfrey Playhouse, 2706 E. Pershing Blvd., in Cheyenne.

What to prepare

  • Online sign-up is required before auditioning.
  • Prepare a vocal piece lasting about 30–45 seconds.
  • Be ready for a cold dance call; music accompaniment will be available via a pianist or a Bluetooth speaker for tracks from YouTube.
  • Auditions will include a short cold reading; applicants with acrobatic or physical theatre skills are encouraged to demonstrate them.

Organizers ask performers to arrive on time and prepared to follow direction during the ensemble dance and reading segments.

Rehearsals, performance dates and casting notice

Rehearsals are scheduled to begin the week of July 27. The production will be presented on weekends from September 18 through October 4 at the Mary Godfrey Playhouse.

  • Rehearsals start: week of July 27
  • Performances: weekends, Sept. 18–Oct. 4
  • Cast list publication: Friday, July 17 — posted on the theatre’s website, its social media channels and on the playhouse door

The production will revisit the familiar characters from the 2001 DreamWorks film while exploring the inner lives of Shrek and Fiona through a full musical score.

Creative team and how to sign up

Jessie Klein, who served as director for last season’s Disney’s Newsies and now holds the role of vice president of programming for the company, will direct this season’s musical.

To reserve an audition slot, visit the Cheyenne Little Theatre Players website or the group’s audition signup pages for the appropriate age group. If you cannot attend in person, contact the production team by email at [email protected] for alternative arrangements or questions.

Local theater leaders say the production offers a chance for community members—children, teens and adults—to gain stage experience in a high-energy, family-oriented show.
