A 21-year-old man is in custody after Arlington police say he fatally shot his 68-year-old grandmother and left her body on the apartment patio, an incident authorities say followed a dispute over money. The arrest, filed last week, has prompted an ongoing homicide probe and raised questions for neighbors and family members about what led to the violence.
Officers were called shortly after 4:40 p.m. on Friday to an apartment complex in the 1800 block of Carriage House Circle after a relative discovered an unresponsive woman on a front patio, covered by a blanket. Emergency crews pronounced her dead at the scene.

Arlington detectives say the victim and her grandson had recently argued about an allowance, which investigators linked to the dispute that preceded the killing. Police allege the grandson, identified as Rontrell Jackson, admitted he shot the woman earlier that morning inside the apartment and then moved her body onto the patio.
Officers obtained a murder warrant and booked Jackson into the Arlington City Jail; he was later transferred to the Tarrant County Jail. A firearm believed to be connected to the shooting was recovered inside the residence during a search, police said.
