Delivery impersonator shoots through package at ex’s new boyfriend

A Georgia man is accused of disguising himself as a delivery worker and shooting his ex-girlfriend’s new partner through a cardboard package, an attack that left the victim wounded and renewed questions about the risks of confrontations tied to former relationships. The arrest highlights how personal disputes can spill into public violence and what neighbors and police face when those disputes turn deadly.

Authorities identified the suspect as Jacob Forrest Kevinsson, 33, and say the episode unfolded shortly after 10:30 p.m. on May 6 at a residence on Smith Street in Kennesaw, about 25 miles northwest of Atlanta. An arrest warrant reviewed by Law&Crime and statements to local media outline a sequence that began with a knock at the front door.

What investigators say happened

Police say the man at the door asked the homeowner’s guest to confirm his identity. When the door opened, the suspect allegedly fired several rounds through a cardboard box he was holding, striking the victim multiple times.

The victim suffered two wounds to the left chest and two to the right forearm, according to the warrant. He reportedly managed to walk to a neighbor’s house to call for help; emergency responders transported him for medical care. Officers said the suspect then fled the scene in a Toyota Corolla.

Kennesaw Police Officer David Buchanan told local station WAGA the suspect had used the box to hide his face before shooting. “This is a very unique case, and it’s one of those things where relationships cause people to be emotional and that’s most likely what occurred here,” Buchanan said.

Charges and current status

Kevinsson faces multiple felony counts, including aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, per the arrest documents. He was arrested last week and is being held at the Cobb County Jail without bond; no court date has been posted publicly.

  • Date and time: Around 10:30 p.m., May 6
  • Location: 2000 block of Smith Street, Kennesaw, Ga.
  • Victim injuries: Two gunshot wounds to left chest, two to right forearm
  • Suspect vehicle: Toyota Corolla (fled the scene)
  • Source documents: Arrest warrant reviewed by Law&Crime; police statements to WAGA

The station briefly spoke with the wounded man, who declined to appear on camera but said he is focusing on recovery. Police confirmed the suspect previously dated the victim’s current partner; investigators have not publicly detailed a motive beyond the relationship connection cited by Officer Buchanan.

Why this matters now

Beyond the immediate injuries, the case underscores a few practical concerns for communities: how ordinary interactions at front doors can be weaponized, the difficulty of de-escalating disputes that involve former partners, and the challenges residents face in distinguishing routine deliveries from staged encounters.

Law enforcement agencies say they will continue their investigation. As the criminal process moves forward, court filings and police updates will be the primary sources for further verified details.
