3rd Annual Shop with a Cop
The Wyoming Highway Patrol, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, the Cheyenne Police Department, and the Pine Bluffs Police Department teamed up again this year for the Cheyenne area “Shop With A Cop” event today, December 20th.
Approximately 30 elementary students from the Laramie County School Districts were picked up from their respective schools by an officer and taken to the southeast Cheyenne Walmart by a patrol vehicle.
Each student was able to shop with an officer and spend $100 + as they wish. Most of the kiddos didn’t spend money on themselves, but on presents for family members. After each one was completed shopping they were able to sit, enjoy some snacks and watch a movie. Lastly, each family went home with a turkey and all the fixings to complete a Christmas dinner.
The intent of this event is to provide these children with a little merrier holiday season as well as providing them with a positive experience with law enforcement. This event also gave officers the opportunity to learn more about the children and their dreams. Sonny, one of the kids is going to grow up and play in the NFL, and then become a Marine.
Alisha, Walmart Store Manger had this to say about the event, “Our associates are so excited about planning for the good that is around the Shop with a Cop, as it relates to the community.”
Laramie County is not the only location to host a “Shop with a Cop,” event. This is a state wide program. You can find photos from events around the state on the WHP Facebook page.
