The Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra welcomes back its Movie Music concerts, a community favorite, with 2 space-themed adventures for the whole family!
The Family Matinee at 2pm will feature music from beloved space movies: Star Wars, Apollo 13, Star Trek, and 2001 A Space Odyssey. Costumed Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion and an Instrument Petting Zoo will enliven the lobby starting at 12:30 PM.
Costumes are encouraged for this family-length concert and tickets are just $5 and $10. Later that night, we will present a full-length concert with those same fun movie favorites with the addition of Orion Machine and Strauss’ epic tone poem, Also Sprach Zarathustra! It’s a concert you won’t want to miss!
“Each of these films used the incredible sound of the full orchestra to create thrilling, emotional music that can transport us to other realms,” says Music Director and Conductor William Intriligator. “For this program, the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra will be augmented by additional players and instruments to create a sound that will overwhelm you!”
The space-themed trombone concerto Orion Machine by Japanese composer Takeshi Yoshimatsu and featuring CSO Principal Trombonist, John Neuohr, has several parts, each inspired by different stars in the constellation Orion. “The piece floats as if it’s floating in outer space, and at other times it swings like we are in a jazz club. It’s beautifully scored, like the other works on the program,” explains Intriligator.
Finally, the massive orchestra will be featured in the beautiful Also Sprach Zarathustra, by German composer Richard Strauss. This music, which provides the opening for the film 2001 A Space Odyssey, continues for nearly forty minutes as an exciting, poignant, and philosophical tone poem freely adapting ideas by Nietzsche.
Other music education appearances scheduled are “Lunch and Learn” on Jan. 25th, from 12-1:30 PM at the Laramie County Library and “Classic Conversations” on Jan. 26th, at 6:30 PM at the Civic Center, prior to the concert.
