Cancer Free GBSD
One of the biggest, most exciting developments happening within our community is the upcoming implementation of the Sentinel system. F.E. Warren AFB is one of three Air Force Bases across the country that houses ICBM missiles. The other two bases are Malmstrom AFB in Montana and Minot AFB in North Dakota. The current ICBM system, the Minuteman III, is to be replaced by Sentinel and we are set to be the first to undergo this replacement.
The latest update: Recently, tests were run at all three of these bases to look for the presence of carcinogenic polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Malmstrom AFB in Montana found harmful levels of PCBs in their missile silos, and Minot has not yet gotten their results back yet. F.E. Warren, however, was pleased to find that their results came back positive, finding no harmful levels of the carcinogens. There were trace amounts of PCBs found in very few of the samples, but they were under the threshold set by the Environmental Protection Agency for mitigation.
