Job Openings are Dropping Across the Country
The month of October saw a drastic drop in the number of job openings, now sitting at the lowest level seen since March of 2021. Not only was the drop of 6.6% a large one, it was also unexpected. Dow Jones predicted that October would have around 9.4 million openings, and the actual number of openings totaled up to only 8.73 million, which was a decline of 617,000 from September. These numbers point to a loosening labor market, which in recent years has been historically tight.
WY We Care: Wyoming’s labor market has stayed relatively consistent while the country as a whole has seen drastic shifts. Unemployment levels in October sat at the same number as September at 2.9%, and remains well under the national unemployment rate of 3.9%.
