Fight the Blight Committee Expected to Demo 1st Property
During the last Mayoral Campaign Mayor Orr was vocal about her stance on blighted properties.
Once elected, she formed the “Fight the Blight” Committee focused on tackling the properties which threaten community health and safety, even locations that jeopardize property values.
“Blight is a disease. It requires continuous and unremitting effort to combat it!” shared Mayor Orr in a presentation initially released by the Fight the Blight Committee.
The first building being addressed, 815 Capitol Avenue, was condemned by the City of Cheyenne on August 11, 2017. The City has the authority to place a lien on property to recover the costs associated to abatement and demolition, if necessary. The Committee passed a motion on May 2nd, 2017 recommending the demolition for proposed properties to include the property at 815 Capitol Avenue. The City has 30 days to report back to the committee and 60 days to complete any required action such as demolition.
