Walk. Speak. Sing.
National Suicide Prevention Week Kick Off!
Grace For 2 Brothers Foundation held it’s annual Step Out, Speak Out, Sing Out event on World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10th.
The event began at the Capitol, walking to the Depot Plaza Square. STEP OUT!
Next, Marji J. Sherman, Cheyenne native, spoke about the date of July 9, 2011. It was a day that she will always remember, not because anything special happened that day. July 9th was the day before she got a call that her sister, E, had taken her own life. Marji’s whole life changed. She shared the experience of her sister’s death and the way it has affected her life. Along the way others have expressed that they were offended by her speaking out about suicide. She bravely shared a letter that she took her a year to write to the men who were offended. You can read it here.
SPEAK OUT!
To help bring more awareness, there were several community members competed in Songs of Hope Lip Sync Battle.
And the Winner was……. Senator Affie Ellis. SING OUT!
The night was commemorated with a candlelight ceremony. Remembering those lost to suicide.
