Cheyenne Area “Shop With A Cop”
“Shop With A Cop” returns again this year.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cheyenne Police Department will be teaming up again this year for the Cheyenne area “Shop With A Cop” event on December 20th.
Approximately 30 elementary students from the Laramie County School Districts will be picked up from their respective schools by an officer and taken to the southeast Cheyenne Walmart at 580 Livingston Avenue (Campstool and College) by a patrol vehicle. All officers and kids should be at Walmart around 3:45 p.m. on the 20th.
Each student will get to shop with an officer and spend $100 + as they wish.
The intent of this event is to provide these children with a little merrier holiday season as well as providing them with a positive experience with law enforcement. Any additional funds received above and beyond what is needed for the Shop with a Cop event will go to providing school lunches for children in need throughout Laramie County. In 2016, there were 31 students from 29 Laramie County schools who were able to go shopping with 36 law enforcement officers.
Through the generosity of the public, Walmart employees, and officers pitching in out of their own pockets, the students were able to shop, spending over $4000.00. Most of the children purchased groceries and necessary items for their families rather than spending it all on themselves. An additional $3000.00 was raised and given to the local school districts to provide lunches for students who cannot afford to buy them and who may not qualify for the federally funded programs.
The monetary donation for this event is being provided by the generous donations from officers, school faculty, businesses and members of our community. Contributions will continue to be taken online at the Wyoming Highway Patrol Association Paypal site: 2017 Shop With A Cop
We wish to invite any media who would like to join us at this event as the officers and their little shoppers take over the southeast Cheyenne Walmart!
