Firefighters for Charity

Cheyenne Firefighters have wrapped up a busy month of community giving with some very special annual traditions.

Each year, the firefighters spend much of their off duty time helping the community. The Union’s Christmas Trees for Charity sold 160 trees in fewer than two weeks, netting nearly $3,000 to be donated to local charities; Safe House and Youth Alternatives being the dominant two. Christmas baskets will be delivered for the Empty Stocking Fund by a convoy of Cheyenne Fire Rescue vehicles and off-duty personnel.

Spokesperson for Local 279 Derek Pollnow says “our Christmas tree sales continue strong and will prompt us into looking to have more, and bigger, trees available next year. As for the Christmas baskets, we typically deliver sixty to seventy for the Empty Stocking Fund and possibly delivering even more tomorrow morning.”

With a new annual drive that has shown great success upon its inception, the bicycle drive will also conclude on Wednesday morning by giving out 80 bikes and helmets to children in need this holiday season. Children were selected by utilizing the Laramie County School District’s counselors.

Children and their families have been invited to the Cheyenne Fire Rescue headquarters fire station to pick up their
new bicycles and helmets and to have them sized and adjusted. “We are extremely proud of this new
event and cannot thank our community and our own members enough for donating the bicycles,
helmets, and money to bring the joy to these children. All of us are truly honored to be a part of
Cheyenne and Laramie County, both on duty and now.”
