Missile Masterminds Come to Cheyenne Again

Southeast Wyoming and Southwest of Nebraska are prime locations for the third leg of the nuclear triad.

Tuesday last week the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce hosted Northrop Grumman. One of the two finalists for the modernization of the intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). When the missiles were first installed this company led the innovation and again, they hope to do it again. They are what you could consider as, missile masterminds. The technology being created will have to last for another 50 years upon installation and takes a forward thinking team.

Currently, the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) team of Northrop Grumman are in the exploration phase. The learning sessions coordinated by the Chamber are to help identify areas of concern, capture local perspectives and strengthen communication among all key stakeholders. During the session community elected officials and leaders from Kimball, NE, Pine Bluffs, WY, Cheyenne, WY and Laramie County were in attendance, along with private industry.

The diverse group shared thoughts and insights with Northrop Grumman which will help them identify community capabilities, areas for improvement and best practices for implementation. More sessions, such as this, will happen throughout the process.

Initially three vendors were being considered for the modernization. Now, Boeing and Northrop Grumman are the remaining competing vendors. Boeing has yet to visit with the local community.
