The Laramie County Community College Ludden Library and Learning Commons is undergoing renovations starting this spring that is part of the LCCC masterplan to create a physically transformed campus.
The library is open to students as well as the public and is one of the most heavily used places on campus.
“We don’t have enough space for all of the students and we don’t have a quiet area,” associate dean of Ludden Library and Learning Commons, Maura Hadaway said. “Our Student Success Center and Writing and Communications Center are also crammed into small places.”
Included in this space will be an addition of a bigger quiet space, a family study area, innovation space with more flexible technology, and a space for a history and heritage area. The history and heritage space will show the history of the college, as well as include travelling exhibits, presentations and small group activities.
There will also be fewer books as a lot will now be offered electronically. The Learning Commons will include the Writing and Communication Center as well as the Student Success Center. This area will include tutoring needs,
resources, and the programs and outreach that the tutoring center offers. This project has a budget of $6.2 million and the Legislature provided $2.5 million in 2017. The rest of the project will be funded with maintenance money and one mil funds. The LCCC Foundation also raised $2.6 million.
During renovations, the library will be located in the College Community Center room 128 and the Learning Commons will be in CCC 138.
