“America the Beautiful” Mural Dedication
“America the Beautiful” wall mural dedication held in Pine Bluffs.
Today, May 29th, a dedication of the “America the Beautiful” wall mural at the Pine Bluffs Veterans Memorial & Community Plaza was held. Starting off with a sunny day, the clouds rolled in and helped us remember that our veterans have sacrificed a lot to give us the freedoms we have today.
The Veterans Memorial and Community Plaza was constructed and dedicated in 2016. The addition of the A 90-foot mural depicts major landmarks and monuments from New York to Hawaii. Larry Silvey Pine Bluffs resident, who designed the mural, spoke to the group about his passion to see this complete.
Larry Silvey thanked everyone for attending by saying, “This is a tribute to this small town, and a tribute to Wyoming to have this kind of spirit, honoring our troops.”
Steve Kravitsky, Wyoming Veterans Commission Director, organized the dedication and included these guest speakers: Wyoming Governor Matt Mead, Wyoming Senator John Barrasso, Field Representative Dianne Kirkbride, for Senator Mike Enzi, Field Representative Karmen Rossi, for Congressman Liz Cheney.
Governor Matt Mead spoke directly about the veterans in Wyoming and all over the country. ” “America the Beautiful” no doubt shows what a great privilege it is to live in this great country and Wyoming. Whether it’s from the coast or the heartland or the mountains, we celebrate not just because of the scenery but because of the people that sacrifice our freedoms.”
Senator John Barrasso presented the American Legion with an American Flag that was flown over the nation’s capitol.
Letters were read from Congressman Liz Cheney’s office as well as, Senator Mike Enzi’s office. To conclude the ceremony, Wyatt Fornstrom, 2018 Pine Bluffs H.S. graduate, was recognized for his acceptance to attend the United States Military Academy West Point.
