A Wilderness Awaits Within 27 Miles Away

Boasting three different reservoirs, Curt Gowdy State Park is located 24 miles outside of Cheyenne between Cheyenne and Laramie. With sites for reserved and first-come-first-served camping, it has 55 reserve RV sites and 15 with water hookups. If not camping and just doing so day adventuring, there are three covered group areas with tables and grill, two handicapped areas so anyone can come enjoy the fresh air. Open year round (depending on snow), come out and enjoy ice fishing once the lake freezes over.

With several trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding, there are various degrees of commitment to adventure from calm to aggressive fitness. Granite and Crystal offer fishing with rainbow trout and kokanee salmon. Granite offers space for water sports while Crystal is a bit calmer with a 15 horsepower max for engines. North Crow is the third reservoir. It is more set with nature than having the amenities that Granite and Crystal offer and is set away from the other two, about 5 miles away from the Headquarters Building.

Attached to Curt Gowdy State Park is Vedauwoo Recreational Area in the Medicine Bow-Route National Forest. There are gravity defying rock formations, trails for horseback riding and hiking for all ages/skill levels. A great place to picnic and relax for the day. Just 27 miles from Cheyenne, there are streams and rivers to catch fish in, plenty of scenic views for the photographer in you and rock formations to practice crack climbs for the rock climbers, with a difficulty level starting at 5.0. Whatever peoples adventurous side may be, Vedauwoo is the place for them to be outdoors and in the quiet, fresh air.
