Cheyenne Urban Forestry Division (CUFD) is now responsible for the trees within the City’s right-of-way in the Downtown Development Authority’s (DDA) district as per City Council approval on June 25.
This means the City of Cheyenne will be planting and caring for the trees along the streets in the downtown. The Clean and Safe Division will continue tree watering and the CUFD will provide all other tree related care and maintenance. The CUFD completed a tree inventory of the downtown trees a couple years ago and will be updating this inventory to provide a current picture of the downtown tree population. From this data, CUFD will prioritize work by focusing first on public safety, followed by tree health.
Their first order of business will likely be removing trees that are dead and/or hazardous, pruning trees that are affecting clearance or visibility, and removing metal grates and strapping material that are girdling trees or are creating tripping hazards. Downtown business owners are encouraged to contact CUFD at 637-6428 with any concerns or questions regarding trees adjacent to their properties or if they have open tree grates where they would like a tree planted.
The DDA district is bounded by House Avenue on the east, Snyder Avenue on the west, 22nd Street on the north, and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks on the south. The district also includes a small strip south of the Central Avenue viaduct that is bounded by Central Avenue on the east, Capitol Avenue on the west, Deming Drive on the south, and West 11th Street on the north.
