Former Bronco Coach Mike Shanahan Coming to Cheyenne
Former Denver Bronco Head Football Coach Mike Shanahan will headline The Friday Food Bag Foundation’s Kickoff For Kids at Little America in Cheyenne, starting at 6 p.m. on Nov. 9.
The event was originally scheduled for Aug. 24 at the Wyoming Hereford Ranch in Cheyenne, but the coach suffered an injury which has sidelined him and resulted in the date change for the event.
Shanahan is best known for his 13-year tenure as head coach of the Denver Broncos, during which he led the Broncos to Super Bowl wins in 1997 and 1998. During his time in Denver, Shanahan led the Broncos to a 138-86 record and three AFC West Division titles. After leaving Denver in 2008, he coached the Washington Redskins for four more years, winning a another division title with the Redskins in 2012.
The Kickoff for Kids event will kick off with a cocktail hour starting at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30. After Shanahan’s keynote address at 7:30, Northern Colorado band, Boom Twang, will take the stage for an evening of live music and dancing.
Proceeds from the Kickoff for Kids event will benefit the Friday Food Bag Foundation program, which works with the community to provide nutritious, non-perishable bags of food every Friday to children in Laramie County School Districts 1 and 2, who may not otherwise eat well or at all on weekends. Last year the Friday Food Bag Foundation – staffed entirely by community volunteers – provided 822 food bags per week during the school year at a cost of over $150,000.
