BLUE FOCUSES ON NATIONAL CYBER SECURITY AWARENESS MONTH – OCTOBER
October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month.
Blue Federal Credit Union will bring awareness to the communities they serve by promoting the importance of online safety. This effort is to help and individuals from becoming victims of cyber-attacks. The Internet is a
shared resource. The month-long event dedicates October to reminding all digital citizens and businesses that protecting our computers and networks is a shared responsibility and each one of us plays a critical role in promoting safe computing. In the spirit of doing good for members and communities, Blue has signed on as a partner of Stop.Think.Connect.TM, the global online safety awareness and education campaign. The Stop.Think.Connect.TM campaign encourages everyone to take security precautions.
“Cybersecurity has reached the point where it must become part of our everyday lives affecting 1 in 3
Americans every year. Over 90% of all cyber-attacks will target you using email. In almost every case,
attackers are relying on you not to pay attention to detail. Following these simple guidelines will
significantly reduce your chances of becoming a victim of cybercrime.
1. If you don't know the person that the email is coming from do you need to open it?
2. When an email contains links within the message, please make sure to hover over the link to see
where it is going to take you to before you click on it. Again, assess if you need to click on the link.
3. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Attackers will look to prey on those who are in
desperate situations making them a softer target.
The best defense against most cybercrime is you. Stay vigilant and alert at all times”, insight and safety
recommendations from Xerex Bueno, Vice President of Information Technology at Blue.
