BLUE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION – DOES GOOD ON THEIR ANNUAL DISCOVERY DAY (COLUMUBLUS DAY)
Blue FCU staff took part in doing good and changing lives at their annual Discovery Day. The entire 260 employees spent the day celebrating reaching a $1 Billion milestone and taking doing good to a personal level. Each employee was given $50 to donate to Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) or the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and another $50 to Do Good. Representatives from CMN and DAV spoke on behalf of their organization. There was $26,000 in the room about to be given away. Each employee chose which organization they wanted to donate to and some employees took their $100 and gave each organization $50. Blue employees donated $8,600 to Children’s Miracle Network and $6,600 to Disabled American Veterans for a total of $15,200. The remainder of the $26,000, $10,800 will be distributed as the employees personally choose; however, employees will report back to the credit union on how they used their Do Good monies.
As part of the vision that has shaped the credit union’s image, Blue’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephanie Teubner, says “doing good is our DNA, it’s the right thing to do. In each community we choose to serve, we plan a membership drive all around doing good and donating $10,000 or more to causes that make a difference in the community. “That’s why we chose one day when the Federal Reserve would be closed in observance of Columbus Day so that we could close our branches and allow the staff to participate in a professional development day along with a credit union-wide giveback.”
“I was in awe watching how much the Blue family prioritizes philanthropy and giving back. Considering that they have so much to celebrate in hitting their billion-dollar mark, they have clearly made it an important value to take their success and pass it on. I was moved to tears watching every person receive “Do Good” money, and even more overwhelmed to watch them passionately give it to charities for which they advocate. Children’s Miracle Network keeps all funds local; any money raised during Blue’s Discovery Day will be designated to Children’s Hospital Colorado. The funds will be allocated to Children’s Colorado’s Children’s Fund, which addresses the greatest area of need in the hospital. This is determined by our medical staff and executive leadership, and could cover anything from treatment, care, equipment, family services, education, or research. Thanks to the generosity of Blue Federal Credit Union, we are able to give more top notch care to more kids across the region, country, and world at Children’s Colorado”, said Kacie Thomas, Manager of Corporate Partnership at Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation.
