The Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra featured a piece about Wyoming composed by Bob Mathews during the October performance. Prefaced by Music Director, William Intriligator during the performance was that the audience would hear the music’s inspiration. Instantly when it started to play everyone started to smile with enjoyment, it was a story about Wyoming.
“Our October concert presented a world premiere by local composer Bob Mathews. I’m honored to have conducted Bob’s music with the CSO! Bob is a huge part of our musical community in Cheyenne: a wonderful educator, performer, and composer. This first CSO commission of his music is long overdue, and I was delighted that Bob chose, as a theme to his new work, a celebration of Wyoming itself. Perfect.” shared CSO Music Director, William Intriligator.
Beaming with pride during the intermission was the Mathew’s family. This was a celebratory moment for the family who has all dedicated much of their lives to the arts. Their family together has a local band called “The Country Club.” Bob Mathews, along with his wife, retired this year from LCSD #1 where they were music teachers. In fact, Bob Mathews began his career as the music teacher 42 years ago and it was actually his first job.
The Mathews family has heavily impacted the development of the artist community in Cheyenne. They continue to make an impact and Bob Mathews most certainly left a lasting impression on Symphony goers with his music.
