Investigation of Fatal Motorcycle Crash at Whitney Rd. & US 30 Completed
The Cheyenne Police Department has completed its investigation into a fatal motorcycle crash which occurred on September 4.
The report determined that at approximately 4:50 p.m. a 2018 Chevy Suburban was northbound on Whitney Rd. and had stopped for a stop sign at Highway US 30. The driver of the Suburban, Christopher Van Tuyl, 30, of Cheyenne, did not see a motorcycle that was eastbound on Highway US 30 and entered the intersection. The driver of the motorcycle, Braden Sauls, 21, of Cheyenne could not complete an evasive maneuver before colliding with the Suburban. Sauls died as a result of the impact.
All fatal crashes receive thorough investigations to account for speeds and driver impairment as well as any other factors which could have caused the crash. The investigation concludes that there was no impairment from either driver and excessive speeds were not a factor in the collision. Van Tuyl was issued a citation for the stop sign violation.
