Wyoming Fallen Warrior Memorial Dedication
Fallen Warrior Memorial Dedication held on Monday, November 12, 2019.
Monday marked a day of dedication for United States Fallen Warriors. The Wyoming State Museum lobby was full of state elected officials, including Governor Matt Mead, along with many veterans, active duty military and members of Gold Star families. The ceremony started with Wyoming Veterans Commission Executive Director Steve Kravitsky welcoming the special guests in attendance. He spoke of the importance of the memorial and the task he was given from Governor Mead to complete this project before the end of Mead’s term.
Special Guest Jack Balow donated proceeds from his 4-H program to this memorial. During the dedication he read a letter on his mom’s behalf, Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jillian Balow. Her letter stated how great it would be to see the bus loads of students that would see this memorial, and the education they would receive on our military.
Governor Matt Mead stated, “I am overwhelmed by the turnout. This memorial represents all the Wyoming Veterans that have lost their life in any U.S. war. Too many Wyoming soldiers have paid the ultimate sacrifice. This Fallen Warrior Memorial is an outward symbol of the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our continued way of life, for our freedoms of our country. It is to ensure that these soldiers and their families are not forgotten.”
The memorial, which is located on the east corner of Central Avenue and East 24th Street, honors all Wyoming Veterans who have died in service to our State and Nation. The Gold Star is the United States symbol for a Fallen Warrior. The Gold Wreath symbolizes Honor and Victory. The six bronze medallions represents our Nations’s Military Branches: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and The Merchant Marines.
