Raegan Downham to Play Soccer
Raegan Downham signs with the University of Nebraska Kearney.
Raegan will be attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) to play soccer and major in Physical Education and Coaching. She was offered an opportunity to run track for UNK also, but for now, is focused on soccer and her education.
She chose UNK because the school has a very experienced Teaching College with a high placement after graduation. The Lady Lopers is part of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, which consists of 14 schools including the current defending NCAA DII women’s soccer national champions. It is a competitive conference, and UNK offers a lot of support academically, athletically within the University of Nebraska system, and local support from the Kearney community.
The women’s soccer team graduates 9 seniors, so it is a young team with a great coaching staff poised to grow over the next few years. This was very attractive to Raegan, as she is positioned to compete for a starting spot as a freshman. Most of all, it felt like home, as it is not too far away and her teammates are very excited for her to join the team next summer. She also was influenced by what a great school and community Kearney is from UNK alumni and her Avid teacher, Jennifer Mertz-Hand.
