Cheyenne Regional Medical Center to Offer Presentation on Human Trafficking
Cheyenne, WY—Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is hosting a free community event focused on human trafficking in the hospital’s main auditoriums on April 29, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Included will be a presentation by a Wyoming survivor of human trafficking, local resources for victims of human trafficking and an opportunity for participants to create “hope bags” filled with personal items for survivors of human trafficking.
“A lot of people are surprised to hear that human trafficking takes place in our community,” said Nichol Zimmermann, CRMC’s forensic nurse program coordinator. “This event is meant to draw awareness to the problem and to also do something tangible to help local victims.”
At the event up to 150 hope bags will each be filled with toiletries, a small journal, underwear, a t-shirt, a pair of sweatpants and a small stuffed toy horse.
The bags will be given to law enforcement agencies, the hospital’s emergency department and other local groups that help victims of human trafficking and sexual assault.
“Many victims have nothing to their names when they are discovered,” said Zimmermann. “The bags are a way to show them someone cares and to also provide them with a few personal essentials to help them as they take those first hard steps toward healing and recovery.”
No RSVP is required for the event. For more information, call 633-7610.
