During the meeting on Monday, March 12th, the City Council of Cheyenne passed a resolution to provide local artist organizations the opportunity to perform the Nutcracker.
A resolution was drafted by City Council Chairman, Rocky Case to supply local artist organizations the opportunity to produce a community oriented Nutcracker. The resolution passed it’s first reading during the meeting. Starting in 2021, the local artist organizations will be given a window of time to secure their dates to be the exclusive Nutcracker production at the Cheyenne Civic Center. This would be in place of traveling Nutcracker productions like Moscow Ballet. In the past, Moscow Ballet rotated every other year with San Diego Ballet.
“The Cheyenne Civic Center is a unique community resource. The Civic Center is a public good and as such should be available to the community, it primary stakeholders first and foremost.” shared Karmen Rossi, Ballet Wyoming Board of Directors member, “Nothing says pride of a place more than a collaborative community production by bringing families, friends and the whole community of Cheyenne to gather to celebrate the holiday’s with a legendary classic.”
This resolutions will permit local professional ballet company, Ballet Wyoming first rights to offer this production in even years. It will also protect the stakeholders from market saturation of the production. To fully supply a local production to the community other local artist organizations like the Cheyenne Symphony and the All City Children’s Choir will partake.
