8 Strategic Initiatives has Greater Cheyenne’s Focus
Imagine, eight strategic initiatives, never before attempted in Cheyenne, to make the area a more prosperous and vibrant place to live, work and do business.
“Forward Greater Cheyenne is for all of us,” said Brian Heithoff, Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce board member and Forward Greater Cheyenne (FGC) volunteer.
In 2017, the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Cheyenne, Laramie County and other key stakeholders, formed Forward Greater Cheyenne to help stimulate the community’s economy. Heithoff, Co-Chairman of FGC, along with fellow FGC volunteer Kirstin Malm, provided a presentation about the initiative to Cheyenne’s Noon Rotary Club, March 20, 2019.
The discussion highlighted the program’s eight strategic initiatives;
- Downtown Revitalization
- Cheyenne Greenway Transformation
- Laramie County Community College Expansion: Baccalaureate Degrees
- Cheyenne Center for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship
- Business Retention, Expansion and Attraction
- Community Beautification
- Pride, Engagement and Attachment
- Regional Asset and Infrastructure
The initiative has already recorded its first major success with the recent passage of Senate File 111 that allows Laramie County Community College to begin offering applied baccalaureate degrees to support long-term economic and workforce competitiveness.
The program was developed with input from local business leaders and community members, 2,400 of whom responded to an e-mailed survey about the local economy. Now that date collection is complete local organizations and volunteers are now in the ‘implementation period’ which includes 34 board members who are moving forward to tackle the eight strategic initiatives. The amount of work leading up to this phase has been extensive and to recognize the achievements thus far the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce recognized the as the “Committee of the Year.”
