Coffee Depot to Close Doors This Week
Friday, March 29 to Mark Final Day of Downtown Coffee Shop
One of downtown Cheyenne’s iconic gems will close their doors for the final time this Friday, March 29th. Coffee Depot, located at 500 W 15th St. will serve it’s last jolt of java refreshment this week after three year’s of operating in the second floor of the Asher Building.
Many downtown business workers came to rely on the quiet location for their morning caffeine fix, mid-day meetings and a remote work space to peck away at their laptops. But it was the quietness that ultimately led owner Crystal Shearer to decide to close shop. Shearer cited inconsistent foot traffic and the recent increase in other coffee shops opening around town as the main reasons for closing.
“This was a huge decision for us and wasn’t taken lightly”, said Shearer. “We appreciate all those that supported making this venture happen and our amazing customers for their support over the years. The outpouring of support from the community since we made our announcement has been overwhelming and much appreciated! Thank you Cheyenne!”
The coffee shop was just a side venture for Shearer, who works full-time for United Way of Laramie County. She also serves in the Air Force Reserves at Scott AFB in Illinois and commutes there monthly for her military obligations. While she is saddened by the closing of the Coffee Depot, she will continue to do work that she loves.
“My passion is in working with non-profits and I love what I do at United Way.” she added. “It will also allow me to spend more time with my family.”
As for the space in the Asher Building, the current operator of Asher Upstairs LLC, that manages the building and event spaces plans to update the kitchen and rent it as a commissary kitchen to food trucks, bakers and other organizations looking for temporary kitchen space.
