The Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra Celebrates Latin Music and Classical Guitar!
The Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra celebrates Latin music with a concert featuring Flamenco guitar and traditional Hispanic song and dance performances by local performers! Classical guitar will also be showcased in an additional performance that weekend!
For many years, the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra has wanted to reach out to the Latino community in Cheyenne by performing a Latino/Spanish program; this program has finally come to fruition in their evening Masterpiece Concert, Flamenco Flair and their intimate chamber music performance, Hausmusik 3 featuring Nicoló Spera.
“Some of my favorite music to conduct is the Mexican music of contemporary composer Arturo Márquez,” says William Intriligator, CSO Music Director and Conductor. “His music has such a sensual groove! You will be tapping your feet or dancing in the aisles!”
The orchestra will perform Márquez’s Conga del Fuego Nuevo, Moncayo’s Huapango, a famous piece based on a traditional Mexican folk dance, and a lovely tango by Albeniz. Several other pieces will be performed that have lively dance sections that capture the essence of Spanish style such as Bizet’s Carmen and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnole.
The featured guest artist for both performances is Nicoló Spera, Nicoló is a classical guitar virtuoso on the music faculty of CU in Boulder, who will be featured in the Fantasy for a Gentleman by Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo in Saturday night’s performance. In addition, local dance troupe, Las Angelitas Unidas y Los Rayos del Sol and local musical group, Mariachi 307, will perform at this event.
Nicoló Spera will be featured again playing classical guitar the next day in an intimate afternoon performance at the Atlas Theatre. Tickets include a reception and two drink vouchers. Cash bar will also be available. After the performance, the Cheyenne Guitar Society will present a free public master class. Other music education appearances scheduled are “Lunch and Learn” on Apr. 26th, from 12-1:30 PM at the Laramie County Library and “Classic Conversations” on Apr. 27th, at 6:30 PM at the Civic Center, prior to the concert. Maestro Intriligator and Nicoló Spera, will be available for media interviews prior to the concert event. Call Lindsey Reynolds at 778-8561 for contact information.
