Month of the Military Child Essay Contest Winners Announced
Annual Contest Drew Record Number of Submissions in Laramie County This Year
In the mid-1980’s, the U.S. Department of Defense declared April to be known as the “Month of the Military Child” in honer of the more than 2 million children across the country who have one or more parents serving in the military. To recognize these children locally, the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce’s Military Affairs Committee (MAC) recently held their annual Month of the Military Child Essay Contest. The winners were selected by a committee of MAC volunteers and were announced at the Month of the Military Child on Friday, April 26 at the Pathfinder Building at LCCC.
Essay submissions were open to any student in LCSD #1 and LCSD #2 with a parent who is active duty, guard, reserve or retired military. This year the essay contest was expanded to include third graders and 9th through 12 graders in addition to 4th through 8th graders, resulting in a record number of essay submissions. Submissions were received from students representing six Elementary Schools, one Jr. High School and two High Schools as well as various aged home schooled students.
