Medicine Bow Range Reservoir Expected to Fill to Capacity

Normal expected flows to cause reservoir spillage into Douglas Creek.

Because of higher than normal flows expected sometime this week in Douglas Creek located in the Medicine Bow Range, the City of Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities (Board) expects Rob Roy Reservoir to fill today, Friday, June 7, 2019. Douglas Creek supplies the reservoir which is one of six water supply collection locations for the City of Cheyenne.

Once the reservoir fills, a spillway will safely and naturally drain additional water back into Douglas Creek, resulting in the flow increase. Those living near or visiting Douglas Creek should exercise caution and be aware that flows may rapidly changedepending on weather conditions.

As of June 6, 2019, Rob Roy Reservoir contained 35,159 acre-feet of water, or approximately 98.7 percent of capacity. Since one acre-foot equals 325,851 gallons of water, at full capacity Rob Roy can hold 11 billion gallons of water. For perspective, 11 billion gallons of water would fill 405,876 school buses.
