Laramie County School District 1 Student of the Week
Trey Downham, who is a seventh-grade student at Johnson Junior High, was selected as Laramie County School District 1’s Student of the Week for the week of Oct. 21.
Downham is a sports enthusiast and participates in football, soccer, wrestling, baseball, basketball and track. He loves working with his hands and creating things. Devoted to history, he is specifically knowledgeable about the World War II time frame.
He strives to be a model student by keeping up his grades. Through his church, he performs community service and participates in youth activities.
“Being a Firebird nominee for Student of the Week means that Trey lives up to and demonstrates our F.I.R.E. motto,” Johnson Junior High Principal Brian Cox said. “Firebirds are Friendly, have Integrity, demonstrate Responsibility, and strive for Excellence.”
Members of the nominating committee said Downham works hard in class and demonstrates excellence through his work ethic.
“Trey has a positive attitude and enjoys working with other students,” one member said.
Another member said: “Trey is a leader. He steps up so everyone can succeed. He encourages others to try harder. Trey always has his materials and is prepared to learn when class starts.”
After high school, Downham wants to attend the United States Air Force Academy to become a pilot. Upon completion of his military service, he wants to become a commercial airline pilot and hopes to start a restaurant in his retirement.
