At the direction of law enforcement, Alta Vista Elementary conducted an early release this afternoon due to a domestic disturbance in the neighborhood.
Earlier in the day, law enforcement requested the school be placed in green lockdown. This is standard protocol when there is a potential issue in the vicinity but not within the school building.
During a green lockdown, all doors remain locked with controlled access into the school. Instruction inside the school continues as usual with the exception that students have indoor recess. In this instance, early release with parent pickup was initiated so students would not be walking home through the neighborhood while the situation was unresolved.
The Laramie County Sheriff’s Department continues its work to resolve the situation.
