Armed Forces Squadrons Recognized By Business Community
Military May starts with the recognition of outstanding Squadrons of our local Armed Forces.
The Annual Military May Luncheon presented by High West Energy took place today, Friday, May 3rd and recognized squadrons for their outstanding achievements with the Cheyenne Trophy Awards. Andy Worshek, Chairman of the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce’s Military Affairs Committee (MAC) and Patrick Collins, owner of The Bicycle Station, as well as Past Chairman of MAC recognized the following during the presentation of awards:
90th OPERATIONS SUPPORT SQUADRON
The 90th Operations Support Squadron distinguished itself as Francis E. Warren Air Force Base’s most outstanding unit from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018. During this period, they performed 10,392 nuclear alert hours, trained 57 Intercontinental Ballistic Missile instructors, and facilitated over 5,000 hours of training for 253 crew members. The unit’s efforts in their diverse mission set were instrumental to the community of Cheyenne and the security of the United States. Additionally, the members of the unit dedicated a total of 2,870 combined hours of community service in support of various local organizations. The distinctive accomplishments of the 90th Operations Support Squadron reflect great credit upon themselves and the United States Air Force.
153d SECURITY FORCES SQUADRON
The 153d Security Forces Squadron, Wyoming Air National Guard, distinguished itself by exceptionally meritorious service from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018. During this period, members were deployed to three separate countries in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE, FREEDOM’S SENTINEL, and the 2018 Winter Olympics. Additionally, the unit trained members of the Wyoming Military Department in domestic operations exceeding Governor Mead’s expectations. Finally, numerous members volunteered in their local communities to include two being elected to the Cheyenne Frontier Days Crisis Fund Board raising over $200K for local catastrophes.
84th CIVIL SUPPORT TEAM
The 84th Civil Support Team’s dedication and outstanding support of first responders exemplifies the highest values embraced by the National Guard. The joint service members of the team have loyally served the citizens of Wyoming during real-world and stand-by mission, while participating in multiple national and regional exercises, and maintaining exemplary evaluation status in garrison and tactically. The 84th Civil Support Team continues to be one of the top 10 most active civil support teams in the nation with 96 real-world responses, over 70 stand-by mission, and over 190 assists.
“Thank you to all of the sponsors who make Military May possible,” said Director of Partner Services, Justin Gorman. “ We have an array of upcoming events include the Governor’s Proclamation, tentatively set for May 17th, and the Armed Forces BBQ on Saturday, May 18th at 10 a.m. at High West Energy. This event is free to active military and their families. Community members are welcome to attend for a donation of $10.”
