Beware: Scammers Posing as Military Members Target Local Residents
F. E. Warren AFB is issuing a strong warning about a rising threat in our community. The Public Affairs Office has been inundated with messages reporting individuals posing as sellers, allegedly associated with F. E. Warren. Scammers adopt various personas—claiming to be sergeants, widowed, or in the midst of military duties.
Regrettably, a local resident fell victim, losing $2k to these deceptive tactics. F.E. Warren urges everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Each report is promptly forwarded to OSI for investigation.
These fraudsters, adept at online deceit, often masquerade as military members facing imminent deployment. Recognize the red flags: unusual email-only communication, unbelievably low prices, promises of delivery and refunds, and requests for payment via wire transfer or gift cards. They exploit platforms like Facebook, eBay, and used vehicle websites.
Don’t fall prey to these scams. Once the transaction is done, the criminals vanish, leaving victims empty-handed. Protect yourself, report suspicious activity, and together, let’s safeguard our community from these scams.
