Boys & Girls Club of Cheyenne Youth of the Year Announcement & Library Grand Opening
The Boys & Girls Club of Cheyenne will hold its annual Cheyenne Youth of the Year announcement and its Library Grand Opening on Tuesday, November 19th, 2019 at the West Jefferson Site, 515 Jefferson Road.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will highlight the renovations to their Library, as well as name the winner of the Cheyenne Youth of the Year Competition.
The Boys & Girls Club of Cheyenne’s Library is an important part of their Academic Success Reading initiative. The Boys & Girls Club shared they are excited to showcase the expansion of their Library collection and the addition of academic activities that will complement their high-yield learning activities and their Summer Brain Gain: Read Program.
This year, there will be six Club Members competing in the youth of the Year competition. In order to compete, members must be 14 years old or older, and have been a Club member for at least two years. Cheyenne’s Youth of the Year will be named at this event, and will receive a college scholarship.
The Youth of the Year competition is judged on strength of essays, interview questions, and speech preparation by a group of community volunteers. Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Club member can receive, and the winner of the local competition will move on to the State competition, held in Cheyenne in February.
This event is free and open to the public. The Club’s Library is supported by various community organizations, including a grant from the GFWC Women’s Civic League of Cheyenne. The Youth of the Year program is sponsored by generous anonymous donors.
