‘Building With A Purpose’ Fate
The City of Cheyenne was identified as a Champion City and was part of the Mayor’s Challenge conducted by the Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Unfortunately the City of Cheyenne did not win the funding but neighboring communities did! Nine cities received $1 million to implement their concepts and such places included Denver and Fort Collins, Colorado.
The City of Cheyenne had the concept of playing “match-maker” for vacant downtown buildings and entrepreneurs. The concept would help to fill locations in downtown in particular, which was a primary focus. The Bloomberg Mayor’s Challenge Team was comprised of the City of Cheyenne Planning & Development office, along with other City of Cheyenne Staff and Design the World, an area marketing firm.
Phases throughout the competition may still yield opportunity for the community if implemented by the City of Cheyenne. The competition process is structured to help communities navigate through idea formation for real results when addressing problems. City of Cheyenne is most certainly a Champion City and will remain that for its citizens.
