Cheyenne Botanic Gardens Celebrates Dia De Los Muertos
Cheyenne Botanic Gardens will host activities with bright and vivid color on November 1st and 2nd for Dia de los Muertos.
On November 1st the Celebration will begin from 11am – 4pm. The Botanic Gardens invites the community to come view plant displays and learn about the significance of the flowers for the Holiday. Attendees can purchase authentic food La Pina Loca, and Tortilleria La Paz. Ofrendas will be on display and guests can take a photo in front of a Giant Sugar Skull.
November 2nd will close the Holiday from 1-5pm, with performances by Las Angelitas Unidas y Los Rayos del Sol, Mariachi 307, and Flores de Colores. Guests are invited to help create a mural on the floor of the Children’s Village, enjoy a variety of activities in the Conservatory classroom, and continue to enjoy the fresh fruit of La Pina Loca, and Tacos and Pan de Muerto from Tortilleria La Paz.
There are several Ofrendas on display in the Theme Conservatory – including one is for the community to participate in. Guests can bring mementos, pictures, favorite foods and beverages of departed loved ones to sit on the Alter to honor their memory. Other Ofrendas honor local leaders of the Hispanic community and show examples of traditional Ofrendas.
The work of local artist Do Palma will also be on exhibit in the 2nd floor hallway, depicting Dia de Los Muertos inspired scenes, and nichos made by the Botanic Gardens staff.
