Free Leadership Class for Parents & Community Members
Parent Leadership Training Institute Offers Free Leadership Class for Parents and Community Members
Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) is currently recruiting parents and community members wishing to positively impact the lives of children within the Cheyenne community. The free leadership class provides individuals and families with the tools to be advocates for their children and others within the community. The Cheyenne chapter is a part of the National PLTI organization with goals that include “expanding the capacity of parents as change agents for children, facilitating parents’ capacity to offer input in community efforts on the neighborhood, city, regional and state level, and…increasing utilization of parents in policy and process decisions,” (National PLTI, 2017).
“This program is not a parenting class but rather a class that helps parents identify their passion as it relates to community involvement and teaches them how to navigate through various systems-educational, local and state government, and more, to be the change they wish to see on behalf of children,” states Monica Jennings, PLTI graduate.
Those interested may earn continuing education credit, PTSB credit and STARS credits. Parents and community members who participate can expect to meet weekly for 20 weeks. “We at PLTI believe in removing barriers for families so they can successfully complete the course. We provide free dinner and child care each week to course participants. If there is a transportation barrier, we work with parents to ensure that they can participate in the course,” continues Monica Jennings.
Those interested in the leadership course are encouraged to attend the upcoming Taste of PLTI sessions all located at the Laramie County Library to experience a portion of the class, determine if they would like to participate, and interview for the class if they wish to enroll:
