Governor Insight Luncheon Wrap-up
Gordon attributes business success to wife Jennie and highlights the importance of young people in his administration for the future.
This afternoon, at the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce’s April Luncheon, Governor Mark Gordon addressed his legislative accomplishments as well as an action plan for the year of 2019. Board Chairman Mike Williams introduced Governor Gordon by sharing many of his business and public policy accolades. Upon addressing attendees, Governor Gordon primarily attributed his business success to his wife, Jennie, and his career in public service to the young people stepping forward to help elevate the state of Wyoming.
Moving forward, the Governor voiced the importance leading a lean, efficient, and transparent state government and revealed several noteworthy accomplishments during his session. He began with addressing women’s rights in the work place, and mentioned Wyoming has historically been 50 years ahead of others in the Nation in regards to women’s suffrage. Governor Gordon also shared the majority of bills passed in his office have been family friendly bills – especially in areas of education. He shared he is eager to work with State Superintendent, Jillian Balow, to advance high schoolers’ exposure to vast career paths and integrating resources. This expansion will assist in high schoolers’ decisions post-graduation. The University of Wyoming plays a critical role in this process, and have focused on leveraging innovation as a tool for his administration’s economic advancement. The Governor mentioned the Rocky Mountain region is an excellent incubator for innovative businesses developing new technologies. He stated,
“We want [people] to recognize that the whole Rocky Mountain Region, including Wyoming, is the most fertile place that you can grow if you are a technology business… [We want to] bring sovereign attention to Wyoming to help build out our infrastructure.”
Additionally, he discussed developments with the Veteran Skilled Nursing Facility, new business opportunities, agriculture initiatives, and energy and climate initiatives. He expressed Wyoming is postured for greatness in the energy industry and that he hopes to achieve innovation in this area during his time in office.
