Historic homes relocation scheduled for May 8th & 9th
Three historic houses located south of the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center parking garage are scheduled to be moved starting on Monday, May 8 in the evening stopping overnight on the western edge of downtown Cheyenne and completing their journey to south Cheyenne on Tuesday, May 9.
The route will take the homes through the heart of downtown on the morning of May 9. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time or to choose another route that day. As the homes progress from downtown there will be delays on Lincolnway and College as the houses move to their new foundations near Arp Elementary.
The Cheyenne Historic Preservation Board denied the original owner of these houses to demolish them in 2008 due to their historical importance. In early 2016 the Lain family came forward with a proposal to move them and preserve their story. The Cheyenne Historic Preservation Board approved the moving permits in April of 2016. Over the past year there has been a lot of planning and work behind the scenes to get to moving day.
“This has been a long process that will allow for the houses to become new homes” said Stephanie Lowe with the City of Cheyenne. Please use caution as the houses make their way across Cheyenne.
