Laramie County Community College to Host Region IX Volleyball Tournament
The LCCC Volleyball team will defend their Region IX Championship at Storey Gym starting October 31 as it looks for another trip to the National Tournament.
Last year, LCCC Volleyball made its first trip to the National Tournament and finished the season ranked No. 10 in the nation.
When asked about hosting the tournament, Coach Austin Albers stated, “We’re really excited to be able to host the tournament this year. We believe that our team has the postseason experience, the talent and the chemistry to go the distance and we’re looking forward to facing the challenge of the tournament in front of our own fans.”
Although the tournament will be held off campus, the team will look for a hometown edge.
“With the tournament being at Storey Gym, we will lose the advantage of playing in our own building… but that doesn’t mean that we have to lose the advantage of playing in front of an LCCC Crowd. We hope that the community, students and fans will show up in droves and help to create an atmosphere that can help propel this team to a championship.”
LCCC Director of Athletics & Recreation Clark Rasmussen shared the economic impact the four-day tournament will have on the community.
“We will be hosting 11 teams from Wyoming, Nebraska, and Colorado who will be competing for this years bid to the National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. We are proud to say that this tournament alone will bring in over $175,000 to Cheyenne’s economy in a matter of 4 days.”
LCCC is currently first in the North Division with an overall record of 25-7 (10-0 in Division). Get more information on the Region IX Tournament, which will be held October 31 through November 3.
