Major General Gregory Porter Takes Command as The Adjutant General of Wyoming
Outgoing Major General Luke Reiner Celebrates Retirement at Change of Command Ceremony Thursday
A standing room-only crowd of local and national military representatives as well as local dignitaries looked on as Brigadier General Gregory Porter was promoted to Major General and took over command of the Wyoming Military Department. He takes the reins from retiring Major General Luke Reiner, after an eight year stint as TAG of the Wyoming Military Department.
Reiner closes out a distinguished 37-year military career that began in his home state of Nebraska in 1982. His appointment to Major General came on April 1, 2011 by then-Governor Matt Mead. Reiner will remain in Cheyenne and will become the head of the Department of Transportation for the State of Wyoming.
“I started my career as a teenager, like many in this room, and also because I wanted to blow things up. I must admit that I stayed because of the people and because of the others who served.” expressed Luke Reiner.
Porter elevates to the top of the Wyoming Guard officially on Monday, April 1. He previously served as the Director of the Joint Staff at the Joint Force Headquarters in Cheyenne, a role he has served in since October of 2014. Porter is a Cheyenne native and graduate of Central High School.
“If I am any success as a leader, I owe it to you all- my friends.” stated Maj Gen Greg Porter after a long list of ‘thank you’.
He closed his remarks in saying that the support he needs from his friends, family and peers is needed now more than ever. Within his address he passed on a statement of gratitude for what will come and what accomplishments he knows are possible.
