0 The community honors the local military community during the month of May Annual through the Military Affairs Committee’s efforts.
Friday, May 4th, High West Energy presented the Military May Kickoff Luncheon recognizing Squadrons with the Cheyenne Trophy Awards. This year those selected were: C Company 1st Battalion 297th Infantry Regiment of the Wyoming Military Department, 153d Maintenance Group of the 153d Airlift Wing of Wyoming Air National Guard and the 90th Civil Engineering Squadron of FE Warren Air Force Base.
During the presentation of the awards Max Carre’, Chairman of the Military Affairs Committee stated, “Military May is this month and is our away of recognizing the excellent men and women of our armed forces. Those award today went above and beyond to achieve their missions.”
C Company 1st Battalion 297th Infantry Regiment of the Wyoming Military Department
This is one of the newest unites and is primarily located in Afton Wyoming. They have successfully recruited and filled 131 positions authorized within the unit and have 103% assigned strength. This accomplishment in such a short time allowed them to be deemed a Cheyenne Trophy Winner for 2018.
153d Maintenance Group of the 153d Airlift Wing of Wyoming Air National Guard
This group was instrumental in enabling unrivaled support to USNORTHCOM and the US Forest Service by maintaining the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System which executed 110 sorties, 140 flying hours and 181 drops of accumulative 260 thousand pounds of fire retardant over 18 active wild-land fires.
90th Civil Engineering Squadron of FE Warren Air Force Base
During this period in which they are being recognized the Squadron maintained 683 facilities and provided emergency services support. They are primary leaders in the community, as well and are essential to the Nation’s security.
Also presented from the Chief Master Sergeant/Sergeant Major (CMS/SGM) Group was their yearly award to recognize a member of the community that has contributed to their organization. This year they recognized Vianna Gurney.
The next event for Military May is the Governor’s Proclamation. The public is invited to attend on Monday, May 14th at 4 p.m. at the VA Medical Center, where Governor Matt Mead will proclaim Armed Forces Day for the State of Wyoming.
