Red Cross Needs Volunteers
Red Cross seeking volunteers to install smoke alarms in Laramie
As part of the Red Cross’s national home fire safety campaign, the American Red Cross of Wyoming is hosting a Sound the Alarm event in Laramie on Saturday, September 30th. The plan is to install 300 smoke alarms in Laramie homes, all completely free of charge.
To do so, Red Cross of Wyoming is seeking volunteers to install the alarms. Training will be provided for installation, and all equipment necessary will be provided. Volunteers will meet at approximately 8:30 AM on Sept. 30 at the Territorial Prison Historical Site and finish up by 2 PM. Free breakfast will be provided!
Sound the Alarm is part of a multi-year national Red Cross program to reduce the number of deaths and injuries from home fires. Red Cross is accomplishing this goal by trying to make sure all homes have smoke alarms, and by presenting preparedness programs to families, children, businesses, and communities. It’s been shown that smoke alarms give people precious time to escape from a burning building. And people should have plans in place for escaping or evacuating their homes in any disaster, not just home fires. For more information on the programs that Red Cross can provide, contact the Red Cross of Wyoming office in Cheyenne: Disaster Program Manager James Ledwith at (307) 763-2230 ; james.ledwith@redcross.org.
