Each year, the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce represents the greater Cheyenne area as a Neighborhood Champion for the annual Shop Small Saturday festivities. The Neighborhood Champion is recognized as an organization which “brings small businesses and shoppers together.”
The event focuses on growing local economy by placing the focus on local, small businesses. In 2010 it was recognized that economic hardships were abound with small businesses, and the attempt to support those local businesses was made by American Express, as they launched the first Shop Small Saturday. Annually, the event falls on the Saturday immediately following Thanksgiving (smack dab between Black Friday and Cyber Monday!).
In 2017 there was an estimated 108 million consumers who reported shopping or dining at local, independently-owned businesses on Shop Small Saturday, equating to “roughly 43% of Americans”. According to reports, there are approximately 64,653 small businesses in operation across Wyoming.
