Swirls & Pearls Cupcakes to Open Shop in Downtown Cheyenne
Asher Building to be Home to Local Cupcake Shop
This fall, Downtown Cheyenne will feature a new “sweet spot” as Swirls and Pearls Cupcakes is slated to open the doors on their first store location. Friends, and business partners, Melissa Bentley and Bethany Willmarth started selling cupcakes in 2016 out of their homes and have built a tremendous following, but in October they will open their first store front location to the public in the second floor of the Asher Building, located at 500 W. 15th St.
The two, who met at neighbors and quickly became friends, started playing with the idea of a cupcake business back in October of 2015. They teamed up to make extravagant cupcakes for their kids’ Halloween Party and they were such a hit that friends and family members joked that they should start a business. A few months of encouraging and research and that’s just what they did. By January 2016 they sold their first cupcake and they haven’t slowed down since.
“We wanted to start small, get a solid footing and get a customer base before we did anything to expand,” said Bethany Willmart, co-owner of Swirls and Pearls. “We have heard about small businesses failing by trying to grow too fast. We have been baking out of both our houses, filling orders and selling at the Farmer’s Markets and we were just running out of space.”
“We weren’t really even looking to expand, but a friend of ours told about this space and it almost seemed too good to be true,” added Melissa Bentley. “Its a really historic building so our plan is to improve on the history of the building with a rustic, elegant charm to our counter and display space.”
Until their new space opens, they will continue to fulfill cupcake orders and will also continue to be at the Cheyenne Farmer’s Market, which begins this Saturday and runs every Saturday through the beginning of October. Swirls and Pearls features a menu of over 50 different flavors, some of which are rotating seasonal varieties.
“We are excited for the opportunities this space will offer,” said Bentley. “We are proud to provide something to our community that we don’t already have and look forward to opening soon.”
