The Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra Presents “Romeo and Juliet”
Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra presents the eternal love story, Romeo and Juliet, on March 9th at 7:30 PM at the Cheyenne Civic Center.
This timeless tale of star-crossed lovers will be told by actors, singers, dancers and orchestra featuring 3 Romeos (an actor, a singer, and a dancer) and 3 Juliets (an actor, a singer, and a dancer). Many of these talented performers are from Cheyenne or the Front Range.
CSO is partnering with actor and visionary director Sarah Hartmann, who is based in New York yet is a Cheyenne native, to present this inter-disciplinary performance that is part symphony concert, part theater, part opera and part ballet.
“It’s no wonder Sarah’s career is skyrocketing,” says William Intriligator, CSO’s music director and conductor. “She brings so much thought and insight into her directing and acting work ; it will be great for Cheyenne audiences to welcome home Sarah as a ‘native-daughter’ and witness her talent first hand.”
“There is so much language in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet about the ‘infinite’”, Director Sarah Hartmann explains. “I tried to capture that feeling of boundlessness: when the emotions become too big for language to capture, singers take over; if the human voice is no longer enough, dancers can carry on through movement; and when that’s not enough, the orchestra describes the indescribable in the way only pure music can.”
Many great composers have composed music for this play, and portions of these memorable and moving pieces by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Gounod, and Bernstein will be performed, as well as a brand new piece written for this concert by composer Jordan Roper. Jordan is a very talented composer focusing on film music, and his parents are Dr. Rick and Ila Roper of Cheyenne.
Other music education appearances scheduled are “Lunch and Learn” on Mar. 8th, from 12-1:30 pm at the Laramie County Library, with Maestro Intriligator, Director Sarah Hartmann, Composer Jordan Roper and additional guest artists and “Classic Conversations” on Mar. 9th, at 6:30 PM at the Civic Center, prior to the concert. Maestro Intriligator, Sarah Hartmann and Jordan Roper will be available for media interviews prior to the concert event. Call Lindsey Reynolds at 778-8561 for contact information.
