As part of their fifth neighborhood tree planting event, Rooted in Cheyenne and the City of Cheyenne Urban Forestry Division will celebrate the planting of their 500th tree.
Saturday, September 21st, Rooted in Cheyenne will plant their 500th tree – a crabapple adjacent to the home of Margret Paul.
“I like the blossoms in the spring and the shade in the summer,” Paul described as to why she chose a crabapple as one of two trees to be planted in her yard this weekend.
The Rooted in Cheyenne program that Paul applied through requires homeowners to submit an application for 1-2 trees, agree to a site visit to ensure there is adequate space for a tree, pick a tree type and pay $50 per tree. Once a homeowner is approved for a tree to be planted, Rooted in Cheyenne steps in to offer the initial year of watering and care.
“I really like that Rooted in Cheyenne takes care of the tree for a whole year!” Paul added, as all trees provided by this program are monitored for quality and health to ensure the tree takes root and thrives.
The event is currently at volunteer capacity and will be taking names for the next opportunity.
“We have been pleasantly surprised with the outpouring of volunteer support and are grateful for everyone’s commitment to a greener Cheyenne,” said Rooted in Cheyenne Secretary Jason Hardy.
Following the event, a family friendly planting party will be held at Danielmark’s Brewery from 6-8 p.m. Families of volunteers and sponsors, along with the public, are encouraged to attend. A tree auction, tree giveaways, a coloring contest, and other activities are planned.
Motorists are asked to slow down and be cautious of crews planting trees in the right-of-way on Saturday.
