Rooted in Cheyenne, a non-profit neighborhood tree planting program, has received a huge gift in the form of a water truck from the Hemmer family. Dennis Hemmer, a long-time Tree Specialist with Laramie County Conservation District, recently passed away but wanted to make sure Rooted in Cheyenne’s trees thrive well into the future.
Last summer, Dennis and his wife Mary Kay Hemmer, were Rooted in Cheyenne’s most dedicated volunteers, logging hundreds of hours while watering over 250 trees on a weekly basis.
“Without the Hemmer’s dedication last summer, many of our trees would not have survived and due to their overwhelming generosity, those trees will continue to thrive as new volunteers carry on the Hemmer tradition. Although we are all saddened by Dennis’ passing, his dedication and commitment to Rooted in Cheyenne set an example for us to aspire to,” said Mark Ellison, President of Rooted in Cheyenne.
Dennis Hemmer was a strong advocate for trees during his career and was responsible for designing and planting many of the living windbreaks throughout Laramie County. He also assisted the citizens of Cheyenne and Laramie County with their tree care questions. Dennis graciously made house calls across Laramie County to answer tree questions and diagnose insect and disease problems. Dennis was known as the “Tree Guy” for good reason and inspired many others to plant trees.
